Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz is credited with inventing a calculating machine known as the Step Reckoner, which was first built in 1673. The Step Reckoner was made to associate Blaise Pascal's multiplication by repeated addition and shifting. The Step Reckoner represented numbers through decimal form, as positions on a 10-position dials.
